There certainly is nothing that is so funny about entertainment insurance. It has been said that the real power players in Hollywood are the insurance companies, since no movie ever gets off production without an all-risk entertainment film insurance policy in place. Nicole Kidman, for one, almost lost her film career because a knee injury just became too expensive too insure after two movies.
In recent years, entertainment insurance has moved evolved in coverage from film productions to include other entertainment productions like festivals and trade shows, concerts and special productions, organized sports events, special events, and even weddings. A typical entertainment insurance policy is a general all-risk type of insurance program, although there are special insurance programs to supplement the main insurance policy. Within the entertainment industry, there are special insurance programs for weather protection and for venues.
A general all-risk entertainment insurance program protects against practically all risks that entertainment productions may encounter, including bodily injuries within the event, damage to equipment, damage to venue, and event cancellation, among other risk factors.
However, an all risk entertainment insurance program is not a panacea for all risks. Accidents can and do happen in entertainment productions. However, not all insurance providers are willing to cover all risks involved. Some insurance providers will not cover events that involve fireworks, although they are very much needed to liven up a production. Two things can happen here: either the production crew dampens the show a bit and not use fireworks, or a production crew risks it and go ahead with the fireworks.
If it’s the latter, then a spectator or an event participant who gets injured because of the fireworks is bound to spend for medical attention out from his own pocket or from the producer’s own pocket. There are other risks that entertainment insurance providers are not willing to cover, thus making an all-risk entertainment insurance policies inadequate at best. They should make some kind of entertainment insurance quote calculators similar to those financial calculators that they have on many sites, this would make life a lot easier. |
